Surfcontrol use and operation information?

Does anyone have any documentation or files concerning SurfControl and proper setup, usage and such? Their online information from their page is rather vague and not very helpful. I've sent a few e-mails to their tech support but have only recieved their online documents as responses.

I'm not very content with the software, or the fact that it fails to function properly with the use of MAC addressing -- however, we do have to make do since we've already purchased it.

I appreciate any information you guys have that may assist us.
 
It works best in conjunction with ISA or as a full proxy. It's very hit or miss in transparent-proxy mode, which it sounds like you may have it set up as. The only other piece of advice I can give you is to be careful with the filtering of ads and popups. SC has a tendency to replace a small banner ad on a page will a full-page-size block page. It'll make the entire page look like it's been blocked unless the user scrolls down, or at the very least it will screw up the designer's CSS layout and make the page look real funky. I found it best to just let the ads be.

Unfortunately, other than opinions about the product, thats really the only operational help I can give you. I used it for about 20 days in a demo. I really was not content with the software, like you.
 
Did you call their tech support? We used the standalone for about 3 years until we decided not to renew last time, as everyone fears going anywhere bad now. I called their support a few times and they were great, and even will remote connect and fix problems if you need to.
 
We use them for Email Filtering and I have to say their tech support is A+ Top Notch. I did a trial of their web surfing product, and well, I wasn't impressed. they touted it to me at an Expo that it was some Websense-Killing App sent back through time to destroy anyone that thought they could filter websites better. I think not :D


We're still on Websense and I love it.
