I have 250 W Mercury power supply.
asus mobo A7N266
256 MB DDR Memory
1 HP cd writer
80gb samsung 7200 rpm drive
AMD 2000+
2 LAN cards
i have ordered a msi radeon 9800 pro will the power supply be enough?
 
Theoretically, yes.

Mercury -- I don't even know what Power Supply company that is.

In actual, no.

You may want to go for a beefier power supply at 300 watts for less than 30 bucks (Fortron/Sparkle). Guaranteed it will run fine.

The only thing that kept me from recommending that you should build a system like this based on the power supply is your new Radeon 9800 Pro and the AXP 2000+ in combination. The rest is no problem.

mercury is some crap brand that is available here.what are the problems i wll face with this low wattage supply
 
The 9800 pro isn't that hard on the PSU

But if memory servers the A7N266 does not have the 4 pin ATX12V connector. Which means the CPU is powered primarily from the 5V rail, as is the 9800 Pro. That's alot of load to be putting on the 5V rail on such a small supply.

obvious things are hard locks, reboots, bsod when you put a heavy load on the sytem.
low voltage or voltage drops
and of course, if it doesn't boot, that's not good.
 
I assumed the motherboard had 12V support. I also assumed that the 9800 Pro and CPU uses the 12V line which kind of makes it a nearing-peak number for a "250 watt" power supply (which we all know is probably 200...).

u are right my PSU has 4 pin connector but that is not connected anywhere.
i will just wait for my radeon 9800 pro to come and see how it works out.if it does not work properly i will buy a new PSU.
