Hello,

I have a issue with a supermicro server.

Recently, I removed a X8SIE board from one supermicro case and put it into a smaller supermicro 1u case. Unfortunately, I rushed things and plugged in the 'Front Panel Control header' cable in the wrong way round!!!

When I start the server the fans now come on at full speed and I cannot seem to get the BIOS to change the speed of the fans like it used to. On shutting down the server the psu fan now also remains running until I pull out the power cord. The psu fan also starts again when the power cord is plugged back in.

The server still boots ok, but does it sound like I have damaged the board?

The case is a new Supermicro CSE-813MTQ-520CB. I am wondering if it is a damaged board or could the case PSU be faulty?

The PSU fan staying on is probably normal. I have a couple of SuperMicro 4Us that do that. The only way to shut off the PSU fans is to cut power to the PSUs.

If that is true it is anoying. I will need to get another power supply as the server will not be left running overnight.

I have now sent a query to Supermicro support about the fan speed issue and whether the reversed cable may have caused this. If I do not get a reply I will put everything back in the first supermicro case and see if everything works correctly again.
