SUPERMICRO SYS-5015A-EHF-D525 1U Intel Atom D525 Server w/4GB RAM $320

Sooooo tempting. These are nice units for pfSense or Untangle. Heck, I've even run Windows Server 2008 and VMware ESXi with nary a problem.

As little resources as PFsense needs (and a big part due to me looking at more powerful surplus stuff on ebay for the last few months) why wouldn't a used <$80-150 server do the job just as well? Many are going to be pretty low power, or significantly more powerful processor, take your pick.

Depending on where you live, a $80 surplus computer could easily end up costing more after a few years due to the power usage.

No redundant power supplies... Why not just buy a desktop at 1/2 the price.

Can anyone explain to me how to actually order an Raspberry Pi here in the US?

Most 1U servers like that are going to be really loud due to the small high-speed fans. This unit is fanless except the PSU fan. Also, it won't use as much power.

I ended up getting one for pfSense or something else if I get bored with that.
