Supermicro Heatsink Question

on newegg I was looking at the

MBD-PDSBM-LN2+-O 775 Motherboard that combo's with their little 1U case which I thought would be nice and small for well the smaller tasks I need done and take up very little space and cost very little since I can use some parts laying around.


my only issue I can see is... what heatsink to use? with those capacitors so close do they make a heatsink that will work with this? if not... wtf are they doin comboin them together.. geez...


I was going to stick with something small like a single core celeron or something figured with that there would be low power and low heat.. green HDD... and boom done...


any ideas for cooling it?

Tough tough. Perhaps with a CPU with a low enough thermal output, you could find either a 775 heatsink and remove the fan, or find a heatsink from a local electronics store and use thermal glue.
 
they look pretty close to the normal distance.. though like mistersparkle said.. it all depends on the processor.. if you plan to run a low power processor.. then you can go with a much smaller heatsink.. though even the large ones should fit perfectly fine..
 
for normal heatsinks yes, the stock heatsink is raised so it will clear them. The larger more performance ones usually have a socket sized contact then go up with heat pipes.

Neither stock nor large performance sinks are possible in a 1U case.

both are flat and pretty well fill in all the points inbetween the holes... I don't know if there is something I'm just not seeing right.. or the fact I've never built a 1U server before.. that's why I asked.

edit:

I did some more surfring and cam across this.. apperently the heatsinks don't sit all the way down... so I guess there isn't anything to worry about....
