supermicro chassis question

What controller(s) are you planning to use? I'd go with the SFF backplane either way. Sure, the cables are more expensive, but the reducer clutter and increased airflow are worth it. If you got controller that have individual SATA ports, you can use reverse breakout cables. Otherwise your controllers have SFF8087 ports and you use 8087-8087 cables.

A = mini-SAS connectors. TQ = individual SAS/SATA connectors. That's it difference wise.

I know the differences I'm just wondering if one is worth getting over the other for one reason or another.

The only reason I see so far is less clutter and possibly better airflow because of it.

I wouldn't worry about airflow. Those fans are more than capable of moving air even with 30 cables in front of them. Might as well get the mini-SAS connectors for simplicity though. At least that's what I would do (or you could get the SAS expander version).
