How cool would it be to have a pocket sized mini-projector that you could whip out on a moments notice? Check it out:

This projector sports 15 Lumens and has a 640 x 480 VGA native resolution. In addition, the contrast ratio is 200:1 and native aspect ratio is 4:3. On the upside to the minimal capabilities (when compared to the competition) this projector is capable of 20,000 hrs. of lamp life and utilizes 16.7 million colors for the display. According to the company, this projector is capable of a 37-inch image from its 5-watt LED, which is quite impressive.

15 lumens? I suppose this would be very hard to see if there are any lights present.

Now thats cool, but they really need to improve their resolution. 640x480 is icky :p

Hey, its Small, if you want higher power, higher resolution it is going to be bigger.

What I want to know is how much is it? I can see some uses for it.

From the pics it looks to be about the size of an old Poloroid instant Camara, and kinda looks like it folds up like one as well.

This is really odd.. New LED Tech could provide a Stable, Cool, Low power 200+ Lumen Source of light for these things.. Wonder why they are stuck on the Old 3w LEDs for 2 years ago?

yes, but does it have a phone in it?? no? not interested. :)
no clock radio either? epic fail

I giggled at the cross out in the article, until I saw the pic at the bottem realizing they were correct.

Take a gander at these...

It's a projector that uses one each red blue and green LASER. Price is supposed to be around $500 each (and it's small enough to fit INTO a cell phone).
Yes it's kinda low powered (10 Lumens) and 848x480. but for the size (the picture shows it with It's battery pack
Just though you might like to take a look
Bob

10 Lumens focused is about the same as 2 candles burning.. Not much light.. 50 Lumens is just enough for a very dark room..

If they can get the intensity right, imagine a Cell phone with WiMaxx, using its camera on one side and projector on the other for life-sized video chat..

This one beats the pants off of those in that it's actually available for buying:

It's 800x600, but scales 1280x1024 pretty well. Makes a 5ft screen on my wall. Granted, only in a dark room. Producing a 32" screen, it can be seen fine on a white well during the day, making it cheaper than a 32" LCDTV and with amazing colors and no ghosting that comes with DLP. I believe it's rated at 25 Lumens.

And, since it uses LEDs, there's no rainbow effect and no Bulb to replace.

That one is a bit larger than the ultra-mini's in this post, but still, very cool.

LED is the best approach for this tech.. Im sick of buying $300 bulbs for my projector.. Modern advances in LED will eventually yeild a much brighter unit..

After doing some math... Using the new LUXEON Rebel, it should be possible to get the same light output as a typical 180W UHP lamp in the same space (reflector size that is). It would pull a little more power and would have to be focused (it wouldn't be a point source like a standard lamp is). Oh, and it would cost about $600-800 for the lamp assembly. Not to mention that bulbs are to projectors what ink cartridges are to printers.

Also, as to the low output of the "show" projector... It's a little deceptive. It scans the screen like a CRT does. Though the LASER would appear dimer than it does just pointing straight out, It Will work for an 8x10 inch image in a lit room... or about 36 inches in a dark room.
And it also doesn't have the added cost of adjustable focusing optics. It's always in focus (makes it a little easier to use). I'm planing on throwing it in my deployment bags. Something that you couldn't do with the larger projectors.
Just my $.02 worth though
Bob
