summer internships/volunteer work

where is a good place that is related to working with computer hardware that i can volunteer in and get hours for the summer?... maybe like best buy or circuitcity?

i doubt this is the proper place to post it but i dont know what other places to post it since it is about hardware, sorta... but if not, please move it

and yea, i m kinda desperate for the summer... i wanna do volunteer work for hours but i dont know where and summers started already...HELP
 
I don't think you can find volunteer work in the tech field...unless you're emptying garbage cans or something :)
 
eheheheheh, i signed up for a computer store in brooklyn, it is owned by some chinese guy and im goin to work there for 8 hours every weekday. then ima buy my self the 3.2 p4 that i was waiting for.
 
i m talking about UNpayed work... volunteer hours

i dont wanna get payed, i just want a statement at the end of the summer that says how many hours i did
 
You can do plenty of that at soup kitches or Habitat for Humatity, etc

But I've never seen a tech related job that gives volunteer work...

i could find a volunteer job at my church but i really wanna find a job that has something to do with technology/computer stuff that way i can say i worked with computers during my summers and it'll look good on my college app
 
Most non-profit organizations have IT work they need done. Contact one in your area to volunteer. It may be server maintenance, workstation config, or just pulling cables, but it will meet your needs.

IT= Information Technology

I actually found a place in Cali that let me volunteer to work with computers. It was a non-profit organization that refurbished computers for teachers. It was a great experience and I bet there would be something like that in NYC. The place was called RAFT: Resource Area For Teachers.

Go for it.
