I currently have a 7800GT. I want to upgrade my video card.

I kinda dont want the 8800GTS...but how much of a gain will I get if I upgrade to a 7950GX2 from my 7800GT?

If it is a decent gain, I will just get that.

(How much FPS will I gain in CS:S?)

Thanks,
Nonsense

it wouldnt be that much of an upgrade imo. your best off getting the 8800gts 320mb. even though you said you didnt want it,its still good to keep in mind.

i don't get it..why don't you "kind of" not want the 8800gts?

I dont like vista. I dont play any games that use DX10...and I dont plan to in the near future. I play CS:S. Thats it, pretty much. I know the 7800GT runs it just fine, but I saw a 7950GX2 (and kinda always wanted one) and wanted others opinions on it vs the 8800GTS. I would much rather buy the ATI 2900HD, but I dont plan on spending 400$ on a video card. I did that with the 7800GT A year ago I think it was.

If all you play is CS: S you really, really don't need a new graphics card.

That said, the 8800's fly in DX9, so the fact that it's a DX10 capable card shouldn't really count against it -- that makes very little sense to me.

What I meant was, I can get a 7950GX2 for $150 (from a buddy). It would cost me $125 more shipped for an 8800gts...

So what I mean is, is it worth the extra $125 if I dont plan on playing any DX10 games anytime soon.

I didnt mean, Just because its DX10 I dont want it, I know they fly in DX9.

My point is, why spend any money when you already have a card that's fast enough for what you want to play? That said, if I could buy a 7950GX2 for $150 I probably would just to mess with. I wanted one when they were new but didn't have the cash at the time.

Same thus why I wanted to try it out. It seems pretty cool when it was released. But you are right on the money side. But I plan on playing Age of Conan, and Warhammer by next year. So I figure I need to be up to standards for those 2.

Today I was reading on the AoC forums that if you can play Oblivion maxed out you should be able to play AoC on about medium settings.

That's nonsense the 7800gt runs css fine, man even my x800xt-pe ran this maxed out at max res.
If you want to upgrade it's the 8800 or nothing. 8800 or nothing.

AoC = DX10 = 8800 or nothing. The 7950GX2 won't be up to standard at all.

yup really man even though you can get it for 150, i really wouldn't purchase it. your better off saving for a 8800gts. you will regret buying a card thats not really much of an upgrade. also it wont hold up to the games that are coming out Q4 of this year. i mean the 7 series is over 2 years old now. basically if your buy the 7900gx2 it will almost be like you sli'd 2 7800gts.
