Suggestions Please

I going to upgrade my vid card shortly and would like some opinions/comments/advice on which direction to go. I am not partial either way (Ati or Nvidia) I suppose as long as it performs well and will hold up to Doom3 and Half Life 2 at 1280x1024. I do not have the cash for the latest and greatest cards so please keep this in mind. Budget is 250 ish. Thanks [H]'ers:D

Here's the order I would go in if I were you...

6800 Ultra or X800XT ($500) > 6800GT ($400) > X800Pro ($400) > 6800NU ($300)

That's all the new cards...for under $300 I would look around on these forums or ebay for someone getting rid of thier 9800Pro or XT...which you could probably pick up for ~$200...

Go with which card you feel will give you the best gaming experience. I would lean more towards the [H] video reviews than most suggestions on any forum.

Just never base your decision on one game since it might not be one you actually end up playing most of the time.

I totally agree with this lineup...
Myself I'm going the 6800 ultra extreme :)

you have champagne tastes and a beer budget...

for 250 ish you will be looking at 800x600 to 1024 type resolutions with image quality settings hopefully at medium in those titles....

prob grab a 6800 vanilla..
