Ok, I currently have 2 sticks of Corsair CMX512-3200C2 and I'm needing to purchase some more ram for another pc anyways...so I want to purchase 2 sticks of 512 to replace what I have in my current system in my sig below. I have about $125.00 to spend...looking for suggestions of brand and which part that might work better than what I have now.

Thanks!

G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) (PC4000) - $200

Crucial Ballistix 1GB (2 x 512MB) (PC4000) - $140

G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) (PC3200) - $90

If you wanna overclock, get RAM that's rated higher then PC3200 to be safe. Personally, I think the 2GB G.Skill is a bargin. If you can get together another $75 that's definitely the way to go IMHO. If you're looking to buy now, then the Crucial is going to be for you. And, if you just can't spend the money the G.Skill 1GB should get you to about 225 if not more. Although, no garantees.

I second the gskill extreme 2gb set. I have one and so far, it is a gem....hopefully it will not be pulling the crucial ballistix crap my ballistix did....died after 2 months usage.

What about some OCZ Performance/Gold Series at least? I don't know how much they sell for in the US, but in australia they fetch a affordable price.

Thanks for the info.

What about buffered or unbuffered...that make any differences? Or just motherboard specific?

Yeah. Same thing with ECC or Non-ECC. Unless you're running dual CPU's (Read: 940 Opterons NOT dualcore) motherboards rarely use buffered/ecc. It's error correction which is a plus for server enviroments. ECC is also slower, so, stick with Non-ECC/Unbuffered.

What about thoughts on this one?

Well, it all depends on how far you wanna overclock you ram, if you wanna overclock your RAM at all. In your title is "Suggestions on RAM for overclocking". Does this imply you're going to overclock your RAM as well, or use a divider and leave the RAM at PC3200?

from what i heard go with g.skills right now if you want to OC the memory or run mem at high FSB's (best bang for buck)

I guess they are going to stop making the ballistix, too many problems, unless you want to deal with RMA's cause there is a good chance you might need to after it starts becoming unstable after a few months. If you get lucky though +++
the OCZ PC4000 is supposed to be good too.

These recomendations are for 1 gb sticks..

Well, I might be doing some cpu overclocking...but not really looking at getting into overclocking the ram. Just looking for some good ram that would hold up good if I got to the point of doing serious oc'ing.

I've ordered the G. Skills 2g 2 x 1g sticks

just got some g.skill value (2x1gb) off newegg for 147.00. stuff is awesome. use a divider and it will treat you right. i would never go back to only 1gb.
