alright, i have about $1500 for a new system.
im thinking about a amd64 and a 9800xt256. i have been outa the loop as far as hardware is concerned. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

also, is the amd64 a good choice? or should i go with a regular barton/p4? i have monitor, so dont worry bout that. thanks guys!

The best thing is to spend some time and research the new hardware. I don't mean that in a nasty way. It's just if your going to build your own PC, you should know why yuo picked each product, instead of just getting it because someone on a web forum suggested it.

To answer your question, yes an a64 system with a 9800xt would be a superb choice if your gaming.

My suggestion. If you can wait a few weeks, Both ATI & Nvidia will be releasing a new video card within a couple of weeks (possibly days) so I would wait and see what they are going to released. That being said, you will see a little drop in price with the current 9800xt and 9800pro. It looks like you are willing to pay about 400+ for a video card. Maybe the next gen of video cards will be around that price and you might want to get that instead.

Also if you can wait, in about a month and a half (or a little more), AMD and possibly Intel will be releasing their new processor and it might be better than the current a64 systems that are out right now. If not, then the current prices on the parts will drop and you can save money and get other things for your pc.

Just my 2 cents.

thanks for the suggestion, i will wait as long as i can and see what i can get.

i have been doing some research. but a great way to aid/hasten my research is through some suggestions.

im willing to take anymore suggestions as well. thx! ;)
