Suggestions on i7 cooler

Why not stick with the Intel cooler if you're not going to overclock?

I've got an i7 system that's OC'ed @ 3.4GHz atm and the fan is pretty quiet. The system it replaced was watercooled, too, which was also pretty silent. ;)
 
The biggest problem I think I am going going to have is finding one that will actually fit in the this stupid case. I don't really wanna drop $50 dollars if I don't have to either but it looks like I am going to have to unless I get another stock fan from ebay.

Anyone know specifically if any of them will even fit in the case I listed above?
 
you don't need to spend anywhere near as much as that if you aren't overclocking. If I was you I would have a friend come over and take a look at your current fan and try to help you set it properly. It shouldn't be turning off for any reason, stock heatsink or not.
 
check out the cheap thermalright cpu coolers from xoxide.com or frozencpu.com or jab-tech.com if you are set on a new cooler anyways
 
I listed the case in my first post.

I am not "set" on a new cooler. I don't know what else to do. Either the CPU is damaged, or the stock cooler is messed up because it will post and start loading windows and then just shut off. It will get to the BIOS and I can check the hardware monitor but it shows 85C and doesn't change. About 20-30 seconds after that it will shutdown. I have cleaned the thermal grease off the cpu and reset the cooler twice and same results both times. When I press down on the pins to secure it all 4 of them pop as if they are supposed to but it just doesn't seem like it is seated very well.
 
Make sure you have the heatsink in the locked position when you put it on. Also, if you're turning the pins after you lock it on, you're probably unlocking it, which would explain why it feels like it isn't seating. The labeling and instructions on the Intel stock heatsinks is not intuitive. The first time I tried using one I had no idea what the arrows were telling me to do.
 
and twist it to lock after it is snapped down, make sure they are all snapped down in the same spot.. sometimes when one side snaps down, it pulls the other side out due to the pressure needed to hold it in the locked position
