Suggestions on fixing RAID0 array?

everything worked fine last night. I tried booting up my computer this morning, it is a SATA RAID0 array w/4 Seagate 200GB HDs. the SATA Controller BIOS is reporting the array as functional. when the array is trying to boot WXPP, an error message pops up saying "error accessing drive, press ctrl+alt+del to reboot". any suggestions? i tried all the plugs and can hear the HD platter whirl/spin from each HD. could the boot sector go FUBAR? if so, how can i access boot sector and fix the boot?
 
Restore from backups. You do have them, right?

Try a WinPE boot disk, and see if that will let you read anything from the array.

 
You can try booting from the Windows cd. It can boot to a limited console-type program that has a number of utilities that may be able to help. Check www.msdn.com for guidance.
 
ok. i'm in the recovery console and i can dir all the data on the raid array!!! so it looks like the MBR is damanged for some really strange reason. i don't want to "fixmbr" if it destroys the data on it. i've done a similar thing on a debian installation before. writing a new MBR is like redoing the partition table and it'll destroy my data.

what does the fix MBR do? i'm gonna have to move that entire array out of the computer and h00k it up to another computer to backup all the data, THEN try it. it was time for a reformat anyway =).
 
ain't working.

i moved it, didn't work on another PC's ide. i'll probably need to install an IDE hard disk before i can copy files over.
 
Pop in a USB hard drive or an IDE internal drive, use something like BartPe to copy the important data over, and then ditch the worthless RAID0 arrays. It's a shame it takes this for people to learn the truth, but if you split those drives up, you aren't losing anything performance wise.
 
actually for the Promise SX4, it does matter. anything less than 4 HD in the same raid0 or raid5 the performance suffers. and no i can't afford to get a new controller yet.

therefore. i've tried everything (even a repair install) and nothing's worked so far. i also found out what the problem was. one of the SATA cable heads came undone. i was 'leakin' data all along. *sigh*. i hate how loose these cables are. don't they make 'em stronger?
 
you werent paying attention to the PAM utility then

I second dumping the stripe, use it for parity, my SX6000 has been going strong for some 5 years now
