Ok guys, I'm helping a friend of mine in school build his first pc, and seeing as he has a college student budget the graphics card he ordered is a XFX 6600GT. Anyway, I was putting most of it together tonight while we wait for another part or two to come in, and when I pull the plastic case the card is in out of the box I hear a tiny rattle. I move the plastic case around some more, and I see the source. One of the very tiny brown rectangular shaped capacitors (?) transistors (? on the back of the card) is broken off and loose in the box. So my question is what should he do about this? I don't know what exactly this piece is or what the effect may be. Should he try to use the card anyway when the final parts come and see what happens? Or should we try to get it replaced without bothering? If it didn't affect image quality or performance that he can tell, should he be worried it could negatively affect the longevity of the card? Also the card was ordered from Newegg and as I've never seen a case like this should we go for the replacement from them or RMA to XFX. Any help is appreciated.

I have heard of this happening before but don't remember what card it was. I would RMA it with Newegg considering it is a recent purchase. Considering you are still waiting for parts it wont be much of a hassel.

In the case before the person used the card anyway and it worked fine, but I would be afraid to try it myself.

Yeah I'm a little hesitant, but I'll have to see what he thinks about sending it back... anyone have any experience with something like this on one of their cards that could clarify the affect, if any?

something like that happenned when i got my ge2 ti vx 64 meg ddr ages ago... i tried it and the comp wouldnt boot. so i rmaed it.
