I asked a related question about 6-10 months ago and didn't get the information I needed. What I'm looking for is a simple microphone to use while playing games. It doesn't have to be fancy nor crystal clear at all ranges. All I need is a mic that hooks over my ear, has a short boom to the side of my face, and can output to a standard 2.5mm stereo jack on the sound card.
In the past I was investigating using a cell phone mic with some sort of 1.5mm to 2.5mm adaptor. From speaking with various people here and elsewhere it was proposed that this would not work becuase the 1.5mm plug from the mic would use one channel as input, the other as output, and this would cause the sound card to freak out (TBSC). While I'm not confident of this answer, I have not tested to see whether it's true. Obviously this also means the mic also has some sort of speaker, which is in itself undesirable.
However, I still need a replacement mic and would definitely prefer something small and uninhibiting for my listening pleasure. Mics that have grips that go over the head are usually far too small for me (I'm not Neil Cavuto, but my head is large, yes), and ones with headphones are completely unnecessary (low quality and pre-existing big speakers). Clip-on and dangling mics simply get in the way or are of extremely low quality. Any suggestions?
