Currently have 128 ss for my os and few games i play, as well as a 250g and 1tb HD i use for misc backup files and my movies. I'm looking to get rid of the 2 extra drives and just get a 3-4tb drive, looking for any suggestions on decent priced drives and quality brands. ive been reading horror stories about all sorts of different drives on the net and its just getting to be to much. Its been years since ive bought a standard hard drive and just need some advise on whats current right now and hopefully avoid getting a bad name drive thats gonna die on me fast. Thanks
 
Hitachi for lowest price for 4tb, WD for highest performance for the 4tb with the caviar black and 5 year warranty. I have 2 cav 640 black I believe they are now both a good 3 1/2 years old and still performing well, buddy just had his power supply take out both of his he took a picture sent it to WD they replaced basically with no questions. You get what you pay for.
 
Something like this Hitachi 4tb? Anyone ever bought from that company before? 2-4 weeks is a long time but i cant seem to really find any other 4tb drives under like $200
 
well 5400 rpm is not going to give the greatest performance I hope you are aware of that, though it apparently has a 3 year limited warranty which is good.

I personally only use WD but when shopping for a bargain I can understand. Seagate does tend to be lower cost however historically do tend to have larger amount of failures over time then WD has, Hitachi overall are quite good as are Samsung Spinpoint.

WD owns Maxtor and Hitachi HDD now, where Seagate owns Samsung.

B&H is one of the most reliable and honest companies out there. I have been purchasing all of my HD's from them for the last 2 years. Consumers Reports Mag listed them last year as one of the 5 top rated online stores for electronics. They are owned by a pair of devout Hasidic Jews and close there site sometimes for a whole week during their religious holidays and are closed from adding to your cart sundown Friday till sundown Saturday every week. Packaging is also good.
 
Right on, I'm not really worried about performance, the drive is basically just gonna hold all my movies/tv shows that i watch on my pc. no games or anything will be installed on that drive.

Rembrandt: You're so correct. B&H is a solid company, but they usually are more expensive as an online retailer. I picked-up some Audio Technica ATH-P5 headphones (my favorite BTW) for $23.99 with S/H. I bought the same headphones @ sonicelectronics for $17.99 with S/H only 4 months ago. No biggie, I love the headsets. Just that B&H get's more coin (usually) for their product! Still a good online company to deal with!
 
NCIX is whom I use due to their decent pricing shipping wise, but more so for their price matching, very few places do that.
B&H I have heard good things about.
The places I use or have used
NCIX, Best Direct, Direct Canada, TigerDirect, Newegg of course, Memory Express, Tank Guys, Amazon, Best Buy, Computer Valley, Frozen Cpu, HookBag, Xioxide.

All these places have their own benefits and faults as do all places, I like newegg for their busters, but prefer to use NCIX whenever I can due to pricematching, and they actually do a very good job of building and testing systems before they ship them to you for a modest fee ($50 if I recall) and can add extended warranty directly through them to I believe max 3 years top to bottom (then of course manufacturers takes over if there is longer then such supported)

If you look at www.resellerratings.com, you will see that B&H is almost 10/10. (So is NewEgg, by the way.) B&H is my GO TO store for Nikon gear, and their prices are usually excellent. Where I "ding" them is that their computer gear product line is more "mainstream" and less "enthusiast," like a NewEgg, or forgive me for mentioning them in the same breadth, Fry's Electronics.
