I need a cheap case and power supply for a file server I am building. I assume even a file server needs to have a decent brand power supply, especially since it will have around 6 HDs hooked up to it. However, I don't really want to spend much at all on the case and PS. Any suggestions?

probably way to much but for like 90$ you can get an Antec Soho File Server case with a hefty power supply in it... has space for 4HDs, 2 more if you use the floppy disk drive slots. part i like most about it is the fans you can get for some fo the HD bays... which is a must. overheating has killed many a harddrive (tho it's usually not a problem so it's often overlooked.. with 6HD's though, heh... you're gonna want some air circulation. IBM deathstars problem was also blamed on heat for awhile...)

Yea thats what i would do. Pick up a high quality case from Antec that already has a 350w+ PSU in it. It will save you money that way and you'll get a great case. I have the Antec SOHO 1080AMG and its great. It came with an Antec True Power 430w PSU.

If this is for a file server your building, I'd recommend getting 2 big drives and running them in RAID1.

The file server is for the house I just moved in with two other guys my age. We each have 300-600 GB on our PC's and we figured why have douplicate files on a LAN. So, we'll all just keep a small master and put all other drives in the server. So is buying a more exspensive one the right answer or can I still get away with a cheaper one?

Well you can probably get away with a cheaper case but dont go skimping on the power supply. If you get a cheap case then make sure you pick up a quality Antec or Fortron PSU.
