Hello HardForum members. Long story short, I have been searching for a nice budget LCD ~32".

I have been looking for about 4 months and have already had bad experiences with a couple of low quality displays. I bought first a 32" Emerson LCD tv from Walmart and had to return it a few weeks later because the picture started to flicker badly. I also tried a 32" RCA LCD tv from Walmart but the picture was poor from the first day and the sound went out about 5 weeks after I bought it.

I like Walmart because they take returns up to 90 days for any reason. I am currently looking to spend roughly $600, maybe $700 if the display merits it. Please give me your suggestions for the best quality display I can get for ~32" and ~$600. Thanks in advance.

Also I have my eye on this Sony. Let me know what you think. (I don't know much about displays/LCD's so bare with me)

To be honest I've usually heard good things about the Bravia series. My father owns a Sony 60" SXRD and he's hated it due to the many issues with resolution display settings and his bulb burning out every year and a half but that's also a rear projection. As far as Sony goes in terms of Bravia it's been fairly good especially if you're on a budget.

The Sony Bravia is a very beautiful series. I heard they have really good colors and are very bright. If you want a suggestion I'd say Vizio is making some good stuff lately. Walmart has a 32" for around $550. They have plenty of connections for everything you need and pretty good colors. Note though that their blacks are slightly greyish so you may consider looking at some reviews. Soyo also makes some nice budget stuff. You can go to Walmart and check out the Bravia and Vizio in person to see how you like 'em.

The Sony will of course look great and probably perform better than any of the other 32" ones at walmart, but its still 720p. Arent there any 1080i/p (real ones, not 1366 scams) in that price range?

Okay thanks for the input guys. I am now considering both the plasma and lcd models of the 32" Vizio available at walmart. Which do you think is the better buy? I will be doing alot of gaming (xbox 360, computer), watching an occasional movie and some cable. It will be in a fairly dark room. I am thinking the plasma, what about you guys? Thanks in advance for input.

Plasma is always a good thing IMO. The picture will look amazing due to there being an absence of backlight on the display. Not to mention the great response time. I guess the picture would fade over time due to the tv being plasma but I honestly don't know any of the average figures on the lifespan of a plasma in that aspect. But as far as I can tell that plasma is cheaper than the lcd and the plasma's picture will look leaps and bounds better!

Thanks for the input guys. I got to look at the Vizio plasma, the vizio lcd, and the Sony lcd and I have to give best picture to the plasma (believe it or not). The salesman also told me that it would excel even more than the lcd's in a darker room. I like the look of the plasma and think I will go with it unless someone here has anything else to say about this decision. I should be getting it by the end of this week or sometime next week. :)
