Since I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 I also have Bridge installed on my computer. Bridge has a pretty nice batch rename tool that is fairly customizable. I set it up and use it to rename my photos and make use of the timestamp from the EXIF metadata. The way I have it work is it does "YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.jpg" So an example of that would be:

20091225_093248.jpg

I need suggestions for other software that does this, because my wife would like to be able to do the same thing. She doesn't have Adobe Bridge on her computer, so I'm trying to hunt down something that can do the batch rename thing, and be able to be customized to do the format I use, but preferably be free.

In my searching I found a program called Stamp that looks like it can be customized to rename files YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS but I'm just wondering if anybody else knows of some others. Especially since Stamp hasn't been updated since 2004.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to check out both of them, and see if they're worth paying for, over the free one I found (Stamp). In the mean time I welcome any other recommendations somebody might have, since I now have some additional time while I wait for my wife's laptop to come back from getting repaired.
