Im looking to get my parents a digi cam and a printer for xmas. Any suggestions as to which printer I should get? I did a little research and from personal experience, Canon seems to make good products. Their Selphy printers (this one looks cool: Selphy CP400 and ZZF has it for $120) look nice but im wondering if anyone out there has a photo printer and what they think of it. Suggestions and comments welcome. Thanks for the help and happy holidays!

The Selphy isn't that bad if you are only doing 4x6 prints. If you think you'll ever do anything bigger get one of the Canon Pixma or Epson R-series printers.

I actually love my RX500 - as long as I use the Epson Premium Glossy paper.

Feels and looks like a photo. Super quality, lots of control through the drivers.

I have a Canon Pixma IP4200 which I got for only about $100 from newegg. It's done phenominal 4x6 prints for me. I have printed any photos larger, but that's because I think it's more cost effective to order 8x10s and such (from an ink cartridge standpoint.

But you can always get refill kits. For example at www.inksell.com . Really cuts down the cost of printing larger photos. Or a large number of photos for that fact.

I use an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 that cost me $400 used. Nice printer, though not blazing fast. It can handle 13x19 inch prints though I haven't gone larger than 8.5x11 on it yet.

For the $100 budget you might look at the Epson R200. It can print on compatible CD-ROMs (not all of them, just specific ones unfortunately) and does 8.5x11 inch prints along with 4x6.

At newegg there are 100 sheet packs of 4x6 Premium Glossy photo paper for the Epson avaliable for $10.99. Probably the best deal compared to the other papers (for other printers) avaliable at the 'egg, though there are a few that come close. I'm also considering looking at other papers from inkjetart.com. I like my results, though I have nothing to compare it to...
