I'm using 8800GTX SLI with E8400 @ 4.2GHz and I wanna upgrade my video card.

I'm thinking of something ~250-300 CAD. I don't mind if it's used... I plan to watercool the card anyways.

I see that in the forums, some people are selling 5850 for 230USD? that seems like a great deal... is that the market price for used cards now?

I plan to use it mainly for gaming, although CUDA would be nice for encoding videos for my itouch...

Also, would a e8400 @ 4.2Ghz be a bottleneck for 5850 or 470?

Does anyone know what 8800 gtx sell for these days?

Thanks!

Edit: I game on 1080p monitor

My complete system specs are here:

CPU is fine for a GTX 460/5850/470. All three are great choices, but I would lean towards the GTX 460 as they are incredible in SLI if you choose to go down that path.

I'd go with the 460 1GB model, or wait a little while longer for AMD to release their Southern Islands GPU's and decide from there. By waiting, nvidia may lower their prices on the 460 models, depending on what AMD releases in the coming months.

I've seen 260 216SP's selling for $120, so I wouldn't expect to get much more than about $75 or so for your 8800GTX's. You can try about $80 and see if anywone bites. I've seen a few cards like yours where the price was lowered to $75 or less and they didn't move very quickly. You may also try a $140 SLI deal or something like that.

I'm sure that CPU will be fine for most games. Probably very good for some that like high clock speeds and only use 2 cores.
