Sudden heating issues

My C2D was always running idle from 35-42C (both cores). All of the sudden from some unknown reason one Core is idle at 54-57C and the other at 60-65C. Any idea what could be causing this? My system has froze a couple of times since this behavior.
 
wouldnt suprise me if you were using the standard push pins(voklskier4452, post).. or maybe get a can of compressed air and clean out the heatsink.. about the only other thing i can think of.. that is if the fans still running.. which is another possibility..
 
Thanks for your suggestions guys. I'm going to open the case and check the heatsink and other parts.
 
Will it be possible to use the "clamp behind mobo" adapter with my Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro? This heat sink comes with the push pin method by deafault.
