Sudden Boot-up Freeze

Hi guys,

In a big dilemma right now, with regards to the above topic. *Actually typing this out @ a cybercafe now..

Anyway, my PC specs as below in the signature..

Everything was running normally until last night when i power up my PC. My X1900XT's fan extended its noisy fan sound(Usually its just a few secs of loudness during initial bootup). Then the internet PC speaker started to beep. Restarting the PC again proved to be futile.

I immediately thought its the ATI X1900XT developing problem. Therefore I slotted back my old Nvidia 6600GT and fire up again. Same problem appeared! The notorious constant beeping sound. I feel this shouldn't be the fault of the X1900XT.

Now the 2nd suspected culprit, the PSU

Is the lack of power be the culprit? I plugged out the power connector from all my 2 DVD drives & 2 back-up HDDs. Same thing happened...

I am at my wits end... Where can the problem lies? Motherboard? PSU? or RAM?!?!

Appreciate any advices to me, thanks in advance!
 
I would try resetting your cmos. If that doesn't work I'd try taking the memory out and re seating it.
 
Also check the ram. Put one in see if it boots, then take that one out & put the other one in.

I have reset the CMOS by toggling the reset swtch, and reseated the RAM. But problem still remained. 1forummer advised me to check the beep errors and I found out the legend for my beep errors.

1 Long, 2 Short = A video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot intialize the video screen to display any additional information.

It seemed again that my graphic card is the culprit. But how do i explain the same freeze when i slotted back my previous working 6600GT card?!

At my wits end now...

** Perhaps I left out an important info here. I remember I updated my Creative Audigy2 sound card drivers with their october release. I restarted it and things running fine. Then i just switch off my PC for the night. The next day I experienced the freeze. But hey.... shouldn't be the culprit right?!
 
Clear the BIOS again then put the 6600 card in and see if it works. IF it still does not work the problem may be the PCI-E slot on the motherboard. If you can try the cards in a another computer then you can be sure that the cards are not the problem. Try the 6600 first.

I have cleared the BIOS, slotted in 6600 and it still doesn't work... I am trying ways to get another PCI-E PC to test the 6600
 
OR do as I do: find a PCI video card. I have three at work that I keep around to test with. Remove ALL expansion cards, plug in PCI video card, and boot. If you still get error beeps, you need to have the board bench tested for failure. If you don't have a card try a mom and pop computer store. You should be able to get an S3 virge PCI card for $5 or less and it is really handy to keep around for testing!

If it works with PCI video, then you may still have a problem with the mobo. If you can get it to boot, check your BIOS version. If it isn't the newest, see if you can do a floppy flash to the newest version, turn off, jumper reset the BIOS, turn off, reboot. If you see screen still, turn off, unplug or switch power off, remove PCI video card, and reinsert the Radeon card. What happens then?
 
I am lucky enough to get a new replacement mobo in the RMA. The engineer too, couldn't get their graphic card to work!

He strongly suggested me to get a good PSU with 24 pins, may be the X1900XT power hungry appetite.

Till then, will I know my PC is up and running. Shall post a conclusion after i get the new PSU..

He strongly suggested me to get a good PSU with 24 pins, may be the X1900XT power hungry appetite.

Got myself an Antec Trio 650W PSU & PC is working fine now!! Finally! ermm.. currently doing a fresh format/installation as it is a new Mobo..

Once again, thanks for the help so far..
 
Hi Boss/Guys, back with a :( face...

Though things are ok now, my System now cannot detect the integrated AVS T200 capture device in X1900XT. The graphic card works fine, its just that windows XP cannot detect any new hardware related to T200, (usually it will appear as new hardware & prompt u to install the WDM drivers)

Advices again?
 
You probably need to post that question in the video card thread, although usually the first thing I would do is check ATI's forums or FAQ's.
 
THanks bro.. Anyway problem fixed

Reason : 3rd part WarCat 6.11 is the root cause. By using back official ATI drivers, the device is detected and installed promptly
