I'm ashamed to ask this question...but I've never had an lcd before so here goes...

I just got my new Dell 2007WFP last night and it came with a USB cable and the instructions told me to hook it up and plug it into a USB port on my PC...so I did. My question is...why? Is it just so the USB ports on the monitor work or does it have something to do with how the monitor functions?

It acts as a USB hub - nothing to do with the monitor function. If you don't need it as a USB hub then you don't have to hook it to your computer.

great thanks guys. I was worried because for some reason my PC seems less responsive than when I had my old CRT. It's likely all just in my head :)

Just remember; if you do have it set up that way, and something is plugged into your monitor (mouse, dvd burner/external hard drive, etc) would stop working when you turn off your monitor.

ah, that is good to know! I don't have anything plugged in currently but I might use it in the future. One can never have too many USB ports :D
