Okay, I'm not a speaker expert and I have a passing familiarity with electronics, but the problem is now beyond me.

Today as I was watching a film my sub decided to make nice scratching and popping noises. So, first I thought it might be a connection and removed the audio input to the sub. Didn't fix the problem. Next, I opened up the back to see if there might be any issues with the amp. I didn't see anything that would make me suspicious, no loose connections, no blown caps, etc . . .. Then I tested the movement of the cone and it is all good, smooth as butter really. I used compressed to blow out any dust or loose particles. However, the problem still persists.

That is when I came here! So, what could the potential issue be? Oh, the subwoofer is an Allison AL10.

So, it still plays but makes nasty noises? Likely a failing amp component. I'd probably call CS at Parts Express
 
Yeah that pretty much sums it up. Just some really odd scratching and popping noises for the lack of a better way to phrase it. I can probably get a recording it if that would help.
