Pardon my harshness, but does this not seem like a question that may be adequately answered by Google? You've dedicated roughly eight seconds to the conceptualization and execution of this topic/post, so it's a certainty that you should not expect any more from those who may respond.
But, for the sake of "niceties", Onix and PartsExpress subwoofers produce fairly capable budget subwoofers.
OP if this is a serious request, and not a hit and run post, then you'll need to list:
- how much cash you're willing to spend
- And whatever components you plan on connecting to this proposed subwoofer ie; receiver, surround speakers, computer etc.
Otherwise if you're looking for a bang-for-the-buck traditional home theatre subwoofer then look up ebay merchant acousticdesign. He's selling the Bic H-100 sub and accepts "best offers" of $190 + shipping. The Bic H-100 is currently the most recommended $200 sub at the AVS forums and i enjoy mine very much
It sounds that your friends sub was loud and boomy, and that's what you want. Pretty much any sub can do this, the Promedia 2.1 sub is extremely loud even at 1/4 volume. Might satisfy you.
