subwoofer cable

i have a 450 receiver with what looks like a very skinny (2mm diameter) rca cable going from the receiver to my sub. Will any ordinary RCA cable like this work if i wanted to upgrade to a bigger cable or is there some special specifications that i should be looking for in a subwoofer cable?

Also, can anyone recommend a decent cable manufacturer besides Monster?

Any RCA cable is fine for a sub, in short distances, about under 10 feet. A thicker RCA cable, which should have greater shielding from electronic interference, would be better for a long run to the sub.

Don't spend too much, as you won't notice a difference, based on brand name voodoo. Radio Shack or AR(Acoustic Research) make quality built, but inexpensive cables. Or you can make your own by getting coax cable with F-connectors on the ends, and attach F-to-RCA screw-on ends (found at RS for about $2/each).

cool i guess i will make my own. i wanted a nice thick black cable to match my pc-61 Lian li im getting so this is perfect :)
