Subnetting Techniques

Hi, I'm new to HardForum so please be gentle....
I'm a UK student studying a networking degree, and also working towards becomming CCNA Certified and MCITP also. I love the Cisco aspects of the course - but Subnetting and VLSM always have proven a little tricky for me, I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a really good, simple method for VLSM?
