I'm in the market for a gaming laptop for $2k, maybe a little more but not much. I've been reading a lot of good things about the emachines but would the m6809 be as good of a game machine as the dell inspiron with 512mb or 1gb of ram and a radeon 9700 128mb added in? In short, I want the fastest gaming machine with the nicest screen for $2k or less, what do you guys reccomend?

Will 1gb of ram help much over 512mb? And what are the differences between a WXGA, WSXGA+, or WUXGA screen?

Thanks in advance.

pctorque.com sells Sager laptops, most all of them are rigged for gaming. Good prices too. You can find one for under $2k with decent specs.

I went with a 6809 for a couple reasons.

#1. Price- there is really no arguing this is one of the best laptop deals around. The specs and the price really don't seem to fit together, but it is possible with this laptop.

#2. 64 bit- This seemed like a perfect oppurtunity to make the jump to 64 bit. I am already running a 64bit version of linux on this machine.

If I had more money to spend I might have went a different way, but I doubt it. Yes, Radeon 9700 128mb would be a beautiful thing to have. I can admit that. I'd say you have some thinking to do. :)

What about the new Dell 9100, it has a Radeon 9700 in it and it is less than 2k

it's twice as thick as the 680x.

(ok, maybe not quite, but close)

True, but it still looks like a kick ass laptop. . . . . . I guess i'm just used to the Dell laptops I screw around with at work all day so i'm kind of partial.
