Sub 1k Comp help

ok i've been workin hard over the summer tryin to get some money for upgrade/building a new comp. i dunno which to do since the upgrade would b to buy everything but the proc. + motherboard which still puts it at like 700 dollars whereas building one(i would like) would be almost 1k

You could save a chunk of change if you didn't buy such high end RAM. I use Crucial PC3200 in my system, it's great stuff. Unless you're gonna do a lot of OCing, I don't think you'll notice much performance difference between the two kinds of RAM and their latencies.

You will do fine with a regular Zalman CNPS 7000-AlCu - they're much lighter than the all copper version, and it cools almost the same, to be honest.

As I've never heard of Rosewill and have no idea what the PSU it comes with is, get a different case with a name brand PSU, like an Antec. I can't really stop you from getting what you want here though.

DVD-RW drive: I'd rather get an NEC ND2510A - dual layer and only like $80 anyways; plus, NEC drives are excellent (I use an ND2500A myself).
