I have Asus Xonar Essence STX. Card is always warm and now it has empty slots from both sides. If I get another gpu then STX would be next to something like Sapphire HD7770. It's not warm gpu but do any of them require empty slots for better cooling or it will be just fine? Thx....
 
The STX has quality components, so it shouldn't be affected by the extra heat. Having a card sandwiched may make the 7770 run hotter though - can you point a fan in that area to get some airflow to them?
 
I have Thermaltake Armor Jr case, no side fan for gpu, only above for cpu. I am worried if STX get warmer it could last shorter. Sound cards usually stay in case for years.
 
So long as you have decent airflow in your case I wouldn't worry too much about it. Plenty of users have STX cards sandwiched in there cases between multiple graphics cards, not just one.

I doubt you'll notice a decrease in longevity.

In any case, it should not matter. Plenty of people have done the same without issue. The card itself isn't designed to need active cooling, and most setups have the card adjacent to at least one, if not two, GPUs.

I would be more concerned with restricting airflow to the GPU versus the sound card's thermals. Make sure that the GPU is still getting air if you are placing it along the fan's side. If the sound card is on "top" of the GPU, then no worries at all.
 
Well, STX would be one slot above gpu. First slot on mb, then first pci-e 16 gpu and so on... I noticed that gpu on top is also warm, not hot as series before.
