i've stuttering ( or microstuttering ) with all games with all vga cards ati and nvidia.

the stuttering shows only when the FPS value is different to classic 60 fps ( with or without vsynch function ). Whene the fps drops over 60 albeit slightly, for example 58-59 or less the animation degrades visibly !

similar thing shows when the FPS goes beyond the 60, for example 61-62 i show tearing at start, when i do highest fps i still have a bad fluidity in the animation.

RESUME : HIGH fps every time but bad animations whene the FPS value is different to 60.
whene i talk about stuttering i mean that i do high fps value but i see a bad animation like little FPS ( for example 40-45 fps, i see it like 15-20 fps ), dont crash, and dont freeze, never, it's only a bad animation !

Why it's like this ? what is the cause ?

what video card are you Husein ? driver version ? os ? monitor ? game being played ? and vsink is forced all ways on right ? and don't use the driver use rivatuner or ati tray tools

My ring is :

i5 760 ( default or clocked is the same )
Gigabyte p55 ud3r last bios
SSD OCZ Agaility 2 ( AHCI )
Segate 7200rpm 320GB ( storage AHCI )
4GB Kingston hyperx 1600 c8 ( before i had Patriot 1333 and was the same )
VGA : HD5870 - HD6950 - GTX470 - GTX460 Hawk - GTX570 ( now ).
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM.

Monitor LG flatron E2240T !

I have stuttering issue with ALL GAMES ! ALL ALL ALL !
i must to play at 60 fps with vsynch absolutly ! whitout vsynch i cant play to any games.

NOTE :
ALL ! I used all driver ATI and Nvidia, and i formatt and change windows versions many times.
I dont use any monitoring software in background, i tryed : D3D overrider - RadeonPro - Nhancer, but never !
In the Nvidia Control Panel i set only the "single monitor mode" option, in the ATI CCC i set every time all to default.

Try driversweeping, restarting and reinstalling your drivers first.

Also list your hard drives.

i had this problem since 14 months !

i tryed to formatt, install and reinstall all drivers, but never.
Catalyst and forceware, i do clear cmos and bios reflash from Qflash but nothing !

OP have you experienced this while gaming on any other rig? Not just a change in video card, but another platform altogether.

VSync does this. Always has, always will do. The stuttering is very minor, but if you're a perfectionist about smooth frames, you need to play without Vsync. Tearing is hardly a very common issue these days.

yeah go to a friends house and play a game and see what happens.

What games are you trying to play? I know you say all games, but, give some names. Also What resolution do you play at? And do you max out every ingame setting?

My 5870 used to do this for a boatload of games. The closest thing to a fix was to artificially set an FPS max of 60. A surprisingly large number of games allow you to do this, so it was a pretty decent fix.
After looking around, some other people swear it has something to do with 64-bit OS's and how certain keyboard and mouse drivers work. Ever try and gamepad with your games? If so...do they still stutter?

i try all games in full HD resolution all max AA4x every time :

Assassin's creed 2
Splinter cell Conviction
Prince of persia the forgotten sands
stalker all series
starcraft 2
battlefield bad company 2
dirt 2
f1 2010
call of duty MW2 and Black ops
Mafia 2
Napoleon total war
dead space 2
All the same stuttering issue whene run over or under to 60 fps !

NOTE :ONLY Crysis, Metro 2033 and Lost planet run perfectly ( i dont know ! Blur effect fix ? )

I dont tryed another platform because i dont know anybody that can help me, i want to know if this issue is caused by my System ( MOBO+CPU ) or caused by my monitor ( the precedent monitor was the same ! ).

With my precedent platform ( AMD ) i run perfectly.
In my RING i change this components in 2010 years :

SSD
RAM
VGA ( 5 different vga )
PSU
DVI cable
I tryed to use a Audio card creative x-fi extreme music

But this f_ucking issue dont go away !

NOTE : I tryed to use and remove XBOX controller pad, but NOTHING !

A frame rate is derived by the rendering time of two or more frames, thus a frame rate monitor may display a given frame rate even though one frame took much longer to render than the preceding or following frame. You may have a frame rate monitor that displays "60 fps", but with vsync, a single frame may have been held from flipping in the time alloted because it had not been completed. If this is happening with many frames (i.e. too many frames are unable to complete within ~16.6 msec), your very 'fuzzy' frame rate monitor may still display "60 fps" as if nothing is wrong, but your own perception will be very different. In this case a frame rate monitor isn't all that helpful — it isn't telling you how long it's taking for each frame to render and just providing you with a semi-accurate overview of what the derived frame rate is.

The reality is that even when your machine is capable of rendering at a frame rate much higher than 60 Hz, on occasion some frames won't be able to complete in time to be flipped and you'll see slight hitches as the previous frame is held. If you're going to play with vsync, make absolutely sure that your hardware is up to snuff.

When vsync is disabled, the stuttery animation you're seeing is likely just the result of tearing. For most people this isn't a big deal, but I'm guessing you're just a good deal more sensitive to it than most people.

i cant play with any games without vsynch and 60 fps !

without vsynch the situation is the same, under 60 fps ( for example in benchmark without vsynch ) the animation is ORRIBLE ! and over 60 is BAD !
with or without vsynch is the same, i use vsynch only for cut the max frames to 60.

i want to know what i must change, monitor or PC or both !
excuseme for my english but i'm italian.

The large HDTV you're using as a monitor exaggerates how bad tearing looks without vsync.

I had the same issue since 2004ish as being an early adopter to using HDTVs as a monitor. Back when we were using CRTs, tearing wasn't nearly as bad. And the fact the monitors were so much smaller back then makes the tear line not as noticeable. There really isn't much of a fix to this. You can do the trick as someone suggested earlier, limit the frame rate in game. I still play oblivion and using a frame rate limiter hack helps.

I find it unlikely that anything's wrong with your display or your PC. The nature of progressive rendering has flaws, and there's very little you can do to overcome them (except to use vsync and ensure that your machine is capable of always maintaining a synchronized 60 Hz frame rate — which in the real world is rarely possible).

Like I said, with vsync, you need a substantial amount of horsepower to ensure that you don't encounter those occasional situations where a frame takes too long to render to make the page-flip, as that effectively momentarily halves your frame rate and results in what you might call "microstutter". If you need to upgrade to achieve that, then upgrade.

when i run bench or plat the fps is high everytime, never eccessive drops or freeze / crash.

I USE LG FLATRON E2240T

Can you please post a video of this stuttering/tearing or the horrible animation?

In the list of games you posted, ones like Starcraft 2 and stalker at max settings will find it very hard to run at the fps needed to keep vsync on. This can cause really bad stuttering. Maybe try playing games with vsync off and use Fraps to measure what frame rate you are getting.

Why don't you try playing games at the lowest settings, turn off AA completely etc etc and see if you can notice the stuttering. Make sure you that if you have vsync on that you have triple buffering turned on in the your graphic's card settings.

i tryed it !

Black ops with vsynch off is orrible tearing or "low frames sensation", F1 2010 is the same, starcraft 2 demo is the same with Vsynch OFF and ON, low quality too.

I cant post a movie because i haven't a camera and if i had it, how to do a movie with a monitor like subject ?
with black ops exist a tool for this ?

Record a movie using FRAPS,

Have you used FRAPS yet to see what framerates you are actually getting?

Have you tried playing on another computer to see do you notice the same problems? That's the first thing I would do!!

Actually, sorry, can you try and see do you only get stutter in games that are DX9? If there are games that can use Dx11 mode and Dx9 mode, try both graphic settings and see do get stutter in both.

I used to have this problem all the time when running sli or crossfire and using vsync. I've since learned that less is more and one video card runs smoother espcially with Vsync off. Also found that running one card I didn't notice tearing that bad either. Currently playing Stalker SOC on my 30" with one gtx480 and it's running smooth as butter.
I see you're running one card.... Maybe it's not your hardware, but your controller. Is your mouse or keyboard wireless? Try hooking up a gamepad and see if you still see the stuttering.

I almost never have this problem with crossfire. If the fps is above 60, the game is smooth, that's about all there is to it.

ok i tryed to play in dx9 - 10 - 11, the issue is the same
i show the fps value with fraps software, i'll try to record a movie now.

now i buy new mouse + keyboard.
NO wireless but i have PS2 keyboard and Pleomax USB mouse + XBOX 360 controller.

Try your Xbox 360 controller first. If the stuttering goes away that MIGHT be it.

i tryed it, i removed my XBOX 360 controller - restart but never ! :(
Tomorrow i'll use new mouse + keyboard ( modern models ).

In this mounth i'll change the monitor too.

Sorry for bumping a thread dead for 12 days, but I joined here just to say that I have the exact same problem!

I looked at many other people in other forums asking for help for the same problem, but your thread caught my eye because we have something in common; I have an LG Flatron E2250V! Too similar to your monitor!

And to top it off, on another thread in another forum, a person with the same issue also had a similar LG monitor.

So I believe it's a problem with LG monitors.

Again, sorry for bumping this thread, but this is a horrible problem, and I want it fixed. Looking at your recent posts, you're probably looking for a new monitor since your LG one is horrible. If you do get another one, please tell me the result; I'll really appreciate it.

Here's my take on things - I think that Windows 7 (x64 in particular) and the way it sends things to an HDTV monitor is different than XP and Vista. I first started getting stutter problems with my TV's when I swapped over to Win 7 x64.
I think some of it is also related to USB devices. I know for me, my older Logitech 5500 Revolution (bluetooth) is a horrible culprit. It didn't have issues on Vista, but in 7 x64 it's a mess. However their other devices (including other wireless laser models) don't seem to have the same issues. The 360 pad never has given me any issues, though. In fact with some games that stuttered with KB/M, the pad made 'em run like butter.

I still believe it's a problem with LG monitors.

No problems here with windows 7 64bit, it works better than XP or Vista for connection to HDTV. This was tested on three different HDTV's, Pioneer lx5090, Panasonic PZ80 and Pansonic PZ800.

I think you're just very sensitive to frame skipping...I doubt anything is actually wrong. Crysis and Metro will look more fluid thanks to motion blur.

I have frame syncing issues with Windows 7 on any games running on the desktop (which means they're still going through W7's display manager). BSNES emulator was, in particular, a big problem. It's like there's a race condition in between the emulator's refresh, and the display manager's refresh. The emulator would run at 60fps smoothly for around 10 seconds, and even though it would still display 60fps, it would actually only run at 30fps for a few seconds, and then get back in sync and go back to normal. I've had this problem in a few games now. Running Windows Media Player in a window over a game that is getting anything less than 60fps makes the game a lot choppier than it should be. Even though the game reports 50-55 frames, it will skip considerably and feel closer to 20 frames. Mind you, this latter issue may also be influenced by my SLI setup. I've experienced this recently in Rift...could be a combination of the display manager race condition issue, and SLI microstuttering.

I'm not sensitive. In my older computers, 30 FPS looked extremely fluid. 30 FPS is now stuttery and jittery.

Just a small bump on this thread. senna89 came online today but he didn't see it because it was hidden.

This is a really annoying problem, and must be fixed!

The only 60Hz issue I have seen is related to the monitor and the way MS interprets the monitor:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2006076

When you consider he's using a 5ms (advertised, after processing circuits add delays) TV monitor, with monitor lag built in, vsynch is his only friend and when ever he exceeds or drops below 59-60 Hz, it's going to impact his gameplay.
I bet if he put his old (real) monitor on the new rig the problem would go away.

completely disable your sound card, in bios if you are using onboard, and report back,

I tried it out and it didn't do anything to my one game left stuttering (Dragon Age 2)...but maybe it'll do something for some other folks.
the culprit in my old system was my bluetooth stuff. In spite of being one of the nicest combos Logitech offered, it made most of my games a stuttering mess.
