Stuttering in benchmarks

In AM3, 3dMark05, and PCMark05 I get a pause for approx 1-5 seconds. What is causing this, is it a dual core thing.

X2 3800@2.3GHz
6800GT 391/1.06

I forgot to add that the cpu oc is 24hr prime stable (2 instances), and the video card shows no hiccups or artifacting while playing quake 4 for multiple hours (max temp is 61C).

Quick questions:

1) What OS are you using?
2) What service packs have you installed?
3) Are you using the X2 driver?
4) If running XP, did you get the dual-core hotfix?
5) If you got the hotfix, did you enable it with the registry key?
6) Are you using "Cool and Quiet" <== if overclocking, do not use. Set bios to disable, and power scheme to "Home/Office Desk"

Why the questions...

XP and 2000 don't have native support for dual core processors (real X2 and P-D or pretend Hyperthreading) so there can be some "perfomance issues". This appeared mostly in games (as they are the applications that really stress the entire system), and some benchmarks. Dual-CPU systems are not affected (unless dual dual-core) as they are differenct physically.

I had this problem when I had my Msi Neo2 Plat, 3500+, 6800GT.
Turning off Fast Writes fixed the problem for me.

Look at Roliath's post. A lot of nForce3 users had/have issues with 6800 series cards.

Try the fast-writes suggestion - and/or - try the new forceware 5.11 drivers. I've seen posts on some forums where users have indicated that these drivers have cleared up the problems. Of course, this seems weird as 5.11 is the same as 5.10 only with new ethernet components.
