so i have a server set up just to run my webpage, but the disk is very picky, right now it wont boot up, it gets to the boot disk and hangs, (updates the EBC(?) and i hear the HD clunk and then it hangs..) but if i toss it in a usb case works fine. SMART on the server says its going to fail but the other computer doesnt say it with the USB. I tried to rebuild the MBR but it doesnt wanna do it. i need to try with recovery cd..What could i do?
did this once before and i put it in said USB case and threatened it with a format and then it popped up in windows so i decided to check it and it worked.. until i shut it down to test some hardware init and this happens
Thanks

seriously.. i think its new drive time

have you run it throu the manufactor drive test software?

Not yet
ill try it next, but its a 6-7 y/o hd thats been on pretty much 24/7 for those years :p

Seriously... time to replace the drive.

6-7 years is a hell of a run for any HDD, let alone one subjected to 24x7 duty.

I have yet to see SMART mis-report a failing drive. It may report early (I have seen a SMART erroring drive last ~6months), but nothing wrong with that.

partition table blew up
Partition magic Says it fixed it but who knows, ill try booting it later
