Stupid Question 2005FPW vs 2005FP

What is the difference between these two monitors? They are both 20.1" LCDs correct?

I am a bit lost as to what the difference is, and why there is such a price difference.

i didnt know there was a such thing as a 2005FP. i thought the 2005 only came in wide.

I just had it pulled up a few minutes ago, I was trying to compare them. Now when I look it up, the link takes me to the 2005FPW page, weird. There is a 2001FP. I need to find the page I was just on for the 2005FP.

the 2001 doesnt have as crisp colors and is a full 20 while the 2005 has better colors and have a 17 in height. i sent my 2005 back for the 2001 for real estate.

How does the 2001 hold up in gaming? Much ghosting?

this one in the pic is my bfs. i am not on his enough to see ghosting but i have never seen it on mine. i had the 2005 and i was not impressed with the real estate so i sent it back for the 2001. the colors are slightly crisper but BF2 looks great to me. movies look way better too.

wide isnt all its cracked up to be.

uh... NO!
They are both 20" from the left top corner to the bottom right corner. The 2001FPs aspect ratio is 4:3 (aka 16:12), whereas the 2005FPW is 16:10. The 2005FPW is wider and less tall than the 2001FP.
Other than that, the 2005FPW is brighter, has better colours and better blacks, but suffers from backlight bleed where the backlight shows through in the corners so black is more greyish. The severity of this issue depends on whether or not you are lucky. It may not be an issue at all for you... Check the huge 2005FPW thread for pictures.

I would not buy the 2001FP. There are better screens out there at comparable prices (unless you get 30% off or something) and the short quote for it is "old tech". Samsung and others are also coming out with new 21" panels that has a 1000:1 contrast, so if you can wait for one of those...

I may have to see about getting me a 20.1 then, thanks for your help. I just bought my mother-in-law a 2005, and she loves it. I do admit it was a bit odd being that wide and all, some of the games looked a bit funny. But she only runs it at 1024x768 so its freaking huge lol.

1600x1200 = 1920000 pixels
1680x1050 = 1764000 pixels
So the difference is 156000 pixels. The 2001 is 9% bigger and the 2005 is 8% smaller, depending on how you calculate it.

The biggest useability issue you face with the 2005 is that it's not very tall... But this may not be a problem for you, it all depends what you use it for. It'll excel at Excel, but probably isn't so hot for Word.

i thought about the 2405 but i would have to take a jigsaw to my desk in order for it to fit and i dont believe that would have gone over to well with my parents

There's a 204FP by some other brand I don't remember who makes it. perhaps you saw this and got confused.

The 2001FP has horrible black levels (most noticable during gaming & movies) If you care about image quality steer clear of this model! ..I sent mine back after 3 weeks. Going to stick with my trusty 21" CRT for now until a worthy LCD comes around .. I dont want widescreen either.
