WD is ok, get a seagate and be happy.

ATA and SATA is very different. Google the 2 and see. also see if ur mobo even supports it

Well... I already brought it to a local computer shop to have it looked at but my dell dim. wouldn't detect my hd when i booted it up. But in the bios it detected it. So I don't know what's worng.
 
Doyou mean when windows boots or the initial system post? You do need to assign it a driver letter and format it through disk or computer management in windows.
 
put in ur os cd. when it boots up in the setup menu, look on the bottom its gonna say press F6 to install RAID/SCSI drivers. press F6 then its gonna ask for the drivers, floppy only. install it and u can setup windows like normal. it may/maynot recognize in bios but it will in windows.
 
I would have tried these suggestions, but I don't have the discs with me.
 
you can dl it from ur manufacture's website as well as all the driver updates and bios
