I am interested in running a dual boot situation(XP/Linux) but I want to be able to access files from both partitions, so I was wondering if I can create a small partition for each OS and have a large partition for Files? Or more specifically will both OSes see the third file partition?

TIA

I don't think it will see both partitions because linux has different kinds of file system. Windows XP will only see FAT32 or NTFS partition. But then you had Windows 2000 and XP, it would work.

If you had Windows 98 and Windows XP, you could use FAT32 on both partitions, and both Operating Systems will see it.

Well I was thinking maybe knoppix but nothings fully decided yet, any suggestions?

Oh yeah and NTFS is still RO, so would FAT32 work on any version of Linux? Oh yeah and thanks for your help guys.

from what I understand most of the modern ones have it built into the kernal,
but no not all of them (there are so many, some are quite thin)

Oh oops I meant is there any version it would work on, but that answered my question well enough thanks Ice Czar!:D

I am not a linux guru, most of them tend to hangout in the operating systems forum, but Ive been seeing more Linux based questions in here, so I'll study up a bit more
