It doesn't take a criminal mastermind to know this was just plain stupid. This is probably the only time you'll ever hear me say this, but I'm glad that this guy got a virus on his computer that led to him being arrested. Honestly, it couldn't have happened to a nicer scumbag. :D Thanks to acegoober for the link.

According to records from the Warren County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Robert Boyden said he was trying to repair Dudley's laptop computer when he saw a list of files from a server known for child porn that were infected by a virus. After seeing images, Boyden contacted a supervisor and officials executed a search warrant, which led to charges. Warren County Sheriff's Department spokesman Stephen Harmon said the two men were acquaintances and that Boyden has some IT knowledge.

I had the a similar experience
I was working as a PC tech at the time. A person brings in his PC due to malware problems. We take it in the back and begin running scans. A few minutes into the scan, his screensaver activates and displays a slideshow of child porn. I turn off the monitor and tell the other techs not to touch the system because it is now a crime scene. I then tell my boss and he calls the police. The police come to seize the PC and ask me a questions concerning what I did from the point of powering on the system to spotting the child porn. I tell them each step I took and then they left with the PC. A few weeks later, my employer and the tech who handled the system (me) are sued by the owner of the PC claiming that we violated his privacy by browsing through his files. We contact the authorities for the evidence that a screensaver displayed the illegal content, not me browsing. That was a quick open and closed case. Never heard anything from the owner or authorities since then.

The event inspired me to pursue a new career beyond a PC tech. I now attend Champlain College working on a Bachelor's Degree in Digital Forensics. Estimated completion date, spring 2018.

Nothing to stop malware from doing so, not that I've ever heard of it happening.

About 16 years ago the computer I used where I was working got some sort of malware/virus on it that downloaded some NSFW pictures onto it. I was questioned about it and got the feeling that they didn't believe me.

So yeah, stuff like that can happen, and does happen.

Or your co-workers were screwing with you.

You don't like child porn, but are going into digital forensics? I hate to break it to you buddy, but you might come across a hell of a lot more. My friend used to work for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and he has a drink problem because of that job.

I stopped using programs like Kazaa and stuff in the past because it was literal crapshoot to what video files you were getting. Sure, you might be thinking your getting some episode of an anime like Berserk, or Full Metal Alchemist, but you're really getting porn of various legalities. You could also believe you're downloading Spider-man and get some odd clip. Shit does actually happen. However, I'd imagine upon investigation that their would be more than just an odd file. Hell, if you're not paying attention you could download a trial and it's an exe that installs countless things into your browser. Again, proof inside the computer should be able to easily show whether a person was malicious or not. You can't hide an actual problem...only lie about it.

I believe it. I couldn't be a social worker because I wouldn't be able to see kids go back to a shitty place. Seeing kids in worse places or being physically or sexually abused? I'd want to go Dexter on them. I'd either have to drink away what I saw or I'd have to quit. I couldn't do it. I'm a pussy.

A list of files from a known child porn site? unless it was something like childporn dot com or something... does the average joe keep a list of child porn sites?

I was wondering what is a "known" child porn site? I sure as hell don't know any.

Exactly, my Dad was a major crimes detective and saw all KINDS of stuff, they would probably know.

Its almost like he wanted to get caught. What else did he do, ask a deputy to help move furniture at his meth lab?
