Is the Motherboard cut out a handy thing for installing heat sinks without removing the MB, or is it required for backplates to fit on a motherboard? I'm modding an old AT/ATX case from 1998 and forgot to mark out an area for a back plate. Since I've already painted the tray, I'm only interested in cutting if its required. Anyone know?

Thanks!

It's just to remove/install the cooler without removing the MB, you don't need to cut it.

The standoffs raise the MB away from the surface of the tray to accomidate backplates.

The cut out just allows one to access the back of the CPU area without removing the MB unneccessarily.:D
