Stupid .avi file problems...

I dont know what the heck is going on with this anymore... ive tried downloading so many codecs its unbelievable... The simple .avi file is giving me more grief than more obscure formats like .ogm's and .mkv's... what's going on here? I used the regular WMP, MediaPlayer Classic, even VLC gets me some wierd results on some .avis...

I can "play" the files, but the upper right area, like a triangular piece, has severe graphics lag or something. And on some of the files on VLC i see a green band going down the middle left... im at a loss of what's going on here. Heeeelp!!

are you sure those AVI files aren't DivX AVI and if they are, you have the latest DivX codec for it?

If thats not the case, usually the culprit is hardware acceleration. Go into your player option and disable hardward acceleration, and give it a go.
