Stuffing non-used cables inside power supply?

you'd be better off NOT doing that as it will hinder the airflow even more inside the PSU. Unless there is a nice out-of-the-way area to do it that won't hinder the airflow and cooling of the components inside the PSU...I wouldn't.

Yea, thats not a good idea at all.

2 things,

1. if you spent some good money on the PSU it should be modular, (or high end and not, but if its high end then you prolly need all the plugs anyway)

2. If it was cheap, then just cut off what you don't need and cap the ends. Buy and nice new psu later.

Antec makes a nice 500watt modular PSU, I think its a SP500. Its not a NEO model but it good quality, and I question if its internal any different from the Neo 480-500.. and I think you can get it for under $70.

I use one and it powers my 8800GTS, 4 HDDs, 3.3Ghz AMD, and a optical drive. just fine..

Just open up the unit, cut the un-needed wires and cap it off with something like an insulated butt-connector so the cut end doesn't short. That's all. Don't over complicate it. ;)

I just realized the only cable I'd be tucking away is an old AUX connector. It won't take up much room.

Would cutting and capping be a fairly safe option also? It is not an extremely expensive PSU, not even low-end Antec level. I will buy a decent modular one after winter break.

most hardly consider Antec Low-end...

Hell, Antec PSUs are the only brand I have never had die. I had a PCP&C 510 sli die, and a fer entermax units, but even antec unit I have owned worked great until the day I sold it. (All thought, i don't buy the low end antec.

You're luckier than most folks here.

Antec isn't "low end", but they do die.. often enough. And they're not "high end" by any stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn't touch Antec PSUs with a 10ft pole unless they are the new EarthWatts line... I've seen about 25+ SmartPower II's (a few TruePower Trios in there too) die after being around a year old working as a technician in the last 6 months...

I wouldn't say that necessarily. The TruePower Trio's are also Seasonic and are actually a bit better build quality than the EarthWatts.
