Students Build 3D Computer Interface

A handful of students at Northeastern University have developed a computer interface that is able to track the position of a user's hand in three dimensions without a controller or markers.

Is this supposed to be a breakthrough or something? You could do this with just about any common vision library. Some simple pattern matching for X-Y and object size for Z.

This would have to calibrated per person, because some people have stronger magnetic fields then others.

Nonetheless, this made me smile with all those demonstrations and sounds. The sensors also looked much simpler than I had thought.
