Hey dudes i was rearranging some drives in my computer to make room for a HDD w/a cooler when to my fustration i discovered the screws holding my floppy drive in place were stuck. Does anyone know how to loosen stuck screws? I need to move my floppy up one bay to make room for the HDD cooler combo...

Stuck? Are they stripped yet? First thing is to have the correct size screwdriver, or better yet two of them. Then you can put serious pressure on from both sides. Also, "Righty tighty, Lefty loosey". Stupid, but I have to recite that to myself sometimes to make sure I'm not going the wrong way! ;)

If they are totally stripped out, hopefully they are the hex type. If they are round, you'll have to do some cutting.

If they're stripped, you could try to cut a new slot with a dremel. But then you have to worry about metal filings flying around inside your PC! I would tape up some saran wrap or whatever to keep the filings where you want them before cutting. I think Sears makes same kind of "easy-out" tool to use with a drill, but not sure if that small or not. Also maybe try a soldering iron to apply heat?

Last resort, buy a new case and throw out the stuck floppy! Good excuse to upgrade.

Ok thanks guys. First I was gonna try an electric drill/screwdriver and then a pair of pliers... Hope this works!:D

If they are spinning in the floppy's hole - apply some lateral pressure so that the threads can get a better grip, then slowly extract it.

take a very small drill bit and drill right down the center of the screw.

then progessivly get bigger till you think you can get the whole screw, minus the threads..... and it should fall out

Least thats what i did when my TMAXX hit a cement pillar ripping in ito 4 complete peices(destroying 7 of 8 shocks) and the heads of any screw going into any aluminum part was ripped off.

Drill

Liquid aluminum

Retap

Then I did it again :p
