Thinking of picking up an Asus 1080GTX Strix and the EK-FC1080 GTX Strix water block. Does anyone know if the original Strix back plate is compatible with the EK block? The card will be vertically mounted so I don't think I even really need the back plate but if the factory back plate is compatible I'd like to use it.

The factory back-plate is NOT compatible with the EK block, if you want a back-plate you'll need to buy the EK version.

Damn! Just found the installation guide for the EK back plate. Looks like the factory back plate screws on through the PCB into the plate whereas the EK plate screws on through the plate and PCB and into the water block. Well, that sucks. :(

The block installation guide shows the removal of the four screws that hold the PCI hold down bracket but does not mention removing the bracket or re-installation of said bracket and screws. Do you know if it re-attaches to the block?

Bit the bullet! New 1080 Strix, water block, back plate, fittings, tubing, etc should be here by Thursday. I guess I'll find out then about the PCI bracket.
