gtx 1080 strix

Thinking of picking up an Asus 1080GTX Strix and the EK-FC1080 GTX Strix water block. Does anyone know if the original Strix back plate is compatible with the EK block? The card will be vertically mounted so I don't think I even really need the back plate but if the factory back plate is...
