Stripe sizes for RAID0 SSD OS drive

Hard to get good info, but for the most part, everyone seems to say 128K (Even though for some reason Intel recommends 16K for their SSDs.... though mine aren't SSD), and I know that the larger the stripe the faster the performance.

Here is the issue though, this RAID array will house the OS and practically all of my apps, that means a lot of small files. From my understanding, the stripe size is basically the same as the filer cluster size of a HDD right? So then wouldn't a 128k stripe size waste a lot of space, especially on an OS drive that is likely to have many small files? None of these recommendations seem to take this into account.

I wanted to know what your opinions were on this.

I'd do 16K for many small files. Or maybe even 8K or 4K depending on how small and how many.

Stripe size is the same as block size for a HD, its the minimum amount of space that any information will occupy.

For large file drives I typically do 1MB for best performance (files 2+GB)

FWIW, my intel pch defaulted to 32k stripe for my 2 840 Pros. I've always done 128k stripes, but this time I tried what the pch defaulted to. All I know is it fn fast.
