Okay, as i mentioned in the Striker Extreme Voltage Advice thread, i have made a new thread for all to post their voltages and timings in order for me to build up an excel data sheet with all this information pooled togeather which i will be hosting for all to view, so that we can have something concrete to work with while trying to get the most out of our systems. - i got this idea from someone over on another forum i read somewhere while i was researching this board... can't remember where now, so thanks to that random person for this idea ;D

I'm going to skip passed the disclaimer as anyone with half a brain already knows that overclocking is done at your own risk, and instead i'll go straight into the rules (yes there's rules):

1. All submissions must be filled out in full - this means no skipping parts or leaving sections out, there is a template posted below so all you need to do is copy/paste the template and fill it out in a reply post to this topic.

2. I will only accept submissions from Bios versions 1002 and upwards - as these are the most up to date and stable bios revisions for this board. - all bios revisions can be downloaded from the ASUS Website (flashing your bios is also at your own risk mr.no-brain).

That's pretty much all there is to it, i will be posting the link for the excel data sheet as and when i update it so check back here every now and then for an updated version.

Download the Striker Extreme Overclocking - Data Sheet v1.05 here!

What is the point of collecting this data and displaying it if no one is going to
post their resulting CPU overclock speed.

I personally want to know if I can OC my E6700 to 3.6 Ghz atleast which is what I am getting now with a BFG board.

My response wasn't meant to be sarcastic...it was a gentle suggestion...I think you have a bad attitude and are a mean person.

that did make me laugh though ;o

just for your lazy pleasure Crash[man] i have included the resulting clock speeds into the files in brackets ;)

Texxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You could have told me what parameters to add up to reveal the speed.

I have OPENLY admitted in this forum more than once that I am not an
experienced overclocker like many. I have already said I never even
went through the PCI-E period with the 7000 PCI express cards.

I am learning right now how to overclock the 680i board. The reference design
uses the Pheonix bios and Asus uses Award. I am familiar with both.

Asus Stryker bios is very Proprietary. They obviously need to make the Tweak
section fully functional. That includes the extras like AI-NOS which allows you
to OC from with in Windows. You can simply click a clock speed and it is supposed
to make all the correct changes to memory settings and voltages to reach that clock.
I checked this by using CPUZ. It does work that way.

Never the less not all of us have the experience you have. Does that make us bad?
Are we somehow inferior? If I choose to I can go out and search for what I need to
add together to get the clock speed but you could have simply in a nice way said:

Crashman you need to add this + this + this - this etc = OCed Clock speed in windows.

Why couldnt you have been cool and just done that? That would have been what a gentlemen would have done.

And just so you know. I have a switch. Literally I am the nicest guy you can imagine especially in my business which I forgot to say I really have been in this business for 13 years. I am QCed on every job I do. People "Love me". BUT

When I am mistreated be people and its on my time and it has nothing to do with my business I can become far worse than you could even imagine. You go listen to my music
all of it and then you will know.

So you treat me with respect then I will treat you will respect. You were sarcastic and that is what you typed. period.

I am editing this myself due to the polite message I received
from one of the guys here.

Believe me You know who you are and I can play your game with out
broken cuss words if I have to. I have your number. I would strongly
advise you not to be sarcastic with me again for your own butt.

Hay, how is everyone liking the new 1002 BIOS? I haven't tried it yet, I'm still using the 0802, has the new one provided anything significant, better over clocks?

Depends Chan chan what you want to do , at least you have control again over the Vcore so you can set the voltage to th required level instead of using the locke done, 1002 seems stable for me, but I read some peeps at Extremesystems are having issues with their quad cores....

I know I can run my board now with slightly less voltage on the chipsets than before to get 1600FSB. But that could be just pure coincidence...

Drazek - if you don't mind me asking; what sort of temps are you getting running your QX6700 at 3.33GHz?

I'm having some realy issues with mine at the moment, but that's mainly my 8800GTXs heating up my entire case.. I'd invest in some more fans, but I don't have any more room in my case. It might be modding time I think...

I've got a Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Case, it has a built in water (Liquid) cooling system (hence the LCS).

so with a watercooled chip, at 3.3ghz i'm getting about 20-24c temps.

i plan to upgrade my watercooling system at some point... i want 1/2" ID tubes, the storm cpu block and the MCP655 pump... and a better reseviour, yadda yadda yadda...

i picked the Kandalf because the radiator is already in a very appealing position, outside of the case, but neat in a way that it works without looking ugly.

Hello all

First post, second pc-build, first OC efforts, QX6700 cpu and 4GB of Dominator 8500s, dual 8800GTX SLi's (Inno3d), aircooled Khandalf case, Striker Extreme w/ bios 1002.

I've read all the posts in this thread (partic those from Drazek, WorthIt and someone else here who has similar combo to the above, and on the Hardforum overclocking thread which spawned this one.

I can't seem to get past a wall at 1278Mhz FSB, and although I can boot to windows at 11x (3.519Ghz), its not stable at all. On 10x 3.19Ghz, its me-stable and SuperPi-stable, but not Orthos stable (crashed after 4mins of blend test), but it will do 16650+ on 3DMark06 which seems OK.

I've tried many of the settings combos shown above, and read about how the quad-cores seem to be more limited in terms of cpu speed than the duals. I've also fiddled with setting voltages for vcore, memory and all the others, but with no better results.

Read the Nvidia oc manual linked elsewhere, useful, but their settings weren't stable for me.

At 3.19Ghz idle tem is high 40's, peaked at about 63 under Orthos. I'd be grateful for any suggestions - thanks in advance.

and temps under load ?
Yeah, I'm interested in that too.. :)

I'm at 55c (idle) - 78c (under load). That's taking the highest temperature out of my 4 cores under load. Two out of my 4 cores sit around 8c cooler than the other two.. As I said in another thread,
I'm using the goo that came with my Zalmann 9700. Do you think it would be worth my investing in some Arctic Silver? I've reseated my heatsink and I don't think my heatsink needs lapping (although I haven't done a razor blade test). I understand that throttling doesn't start on the Quad Cores until 100c but it still doesn't feel right... :(

VC3 - It seems to me like you've stepped into the trap that a few others have here. 4GBs of RAM and a QX6700 seems to put up walls all over the place..

The only thing I can recommend is setting a value for your Vcore in the BIOS. I saw mine fluctuating (from restart to restart) a fair bit and setting it helped to eliminate that problem. I know that helped me out when I was getting my RAM to work (with my multiplier on 11 that is).

Good luck...!

Seems like no one has really passed 1600 MHz FSB yet?

I'm at 1750, haven't went further yet ...

I'm scared on moving to 1002 BIOS, why fix something that's not broken right?

Anyone have problems with 1002?

temps under load are typically about 24-30 (i've never seen it go above 30)

as another comparison, idle temps at stock speeds/voltages were as low as 17-18 on my bios temp sensors.

seeing as we've now ventured onto page 2 of this thread i'm going to upload the data file for all to download now, though there still isn't too much information in it yet; keep it coming people!

Those temps are insanely low for that chip for that clock. I might have to invest in some water cooling at some stage I think... If I did it though, I would want to watercool my SLI'd 8800s as well. It sounds like it would be an expensive change for me.. It might have to wait a little while.

a good watercooling setup can get a little expensive depending on what level of watercooling your after... to cool both your cards and cpu with a full custom watercooling system could cost anything from £200 to £350 i figure... my ideal system would have cost me about £260 for example.

i've updated the file again, v1.01 ;o

what kindda cooling are you using , I don't think even the best watercooling setup can obtain these low temperatures. I'm hoping for low 50°C under load with my E6600@3600Mhz at 1.4 Vcore...(coretemp temps, Asus probe is about 10°C lower)

i'm using the standard thermaltake khandalf LCS cooling that came with the case.

my readings are coming from asus probe 2, latest version. and the bios temperature monitor.

Oh, in that case, my temps are 35 - 48c... I was talking coreTemp temps when I mentioned my previous temps.

Mm Still find those temps way low for a 3.2Ghz Quadcore Drazek. Thermaltake really got a good case with the Kandalf LCS ( triple rad I suppose), the Armor LCS (dual rad) my friend had was bit of non performer, temps didn't realy drop and the airflow in the case was wrong, after we corrected some fan directions, temps were better but nothing shocking in the world of watercooling...

Will keep you updated when my watercooling fonctions....

both me and 2 of my friends have the khandalf with almost identicle systems;

myself and my friend who also has the QX6700 are both reporting temperatures in the Striker Extreme Bios at default clocks and voltages to be 18-20C

my other friend uses an E6600 and in his striker extreme bios at default clocks and voltages he's also reporting about 18-20C.

i'll have to ask the other two, but with the overclocks turned on my temps didn't go up by much at all during idle in the bios and in pc probe 2.

i'm gonna have to download that coretemp program and do some proper tests during load and after a massive game of supreme commander.

it's just i've been more concerned about getting this board to run fast and stable, rather than about what kind of heat it's producing ;p

That case must be sensational. Even for probe/bios temps, they just blow me away...

Just don't get a shock when you download coreTemp and check out your real temperatures... haha. I know I did..

Me again.

Thanks for the excel file - helped no end. I've ditched pushing on fsb for the moment in favour of default fsb and 12x multiplier, still with memory of 4x1Gb at 1066 though, giving roughly the same cpu speed I got before, but much more stable (>1hr orthos blend no worries) - presumably due to fixing Vcore and a trc setting (per your suggestions).

Like others, I didn't fix an SB voltage, as i read that with a second 8800GTX card (on SLi) the SB demands are much larger than you might expect sans, hence let auto give it what it wants. Will post revised specs later, but 3dmark06 score has dropped only slightly to 16440 or thereabouts, so not too foul.

I also had the 'coretemp shock'. Where asusprobe was showing max temp under load (orthos blend) at about 55degC, coretemp was reading more like 67 - 68degC on 2 of four cores (presumably those being used in that orthos run)! What is a safe max temp under load - did I hear right that throttling on the qx6700 dosn't set in until 100degC? That's mad. Also, I thought we were all turning off the auto throttling in the bios for OC efforts... Thought I read somewhere that heat stress (heat, cool, reheat, cool) and hence chip life becomes a bigger issue beyond 65degC..

VC3 - What VCore are you using to have your QX6700 stable on 12x? I want this chip to last a while so I don't know if I really want to push it that hard.

Orthos will only stress two of the four cores that you are using on this chip. If you want a program to stress all four cores at once, download the new Prime95 25.1. Check your temps after using that - things become fairly hot.

I've only ever seen my chip go to 80c once and that was its absolute maximum. That occurred when my ambient temps were around 32c. I am not too worried as these chips are supposedly able to take around 115-125c and don't start throttling until 100c. It took me a while to get used to it, but apparently they just run a lot hotter than any of the other chips. You have you remember there are four cores here, not two. Its a different beast from the Conroes.

Where did you hear about the stress of heating and cooling becoming an issue? I haven't heard of that before, but I guess it would make sense. In real world application though, I wouldn't expect the chip to get that hot while gaming or using applications. At least not for now with the current software floating around. The only programs that seem to run the 4 cores at 100% at the moment are stress-testing applications. I can play oblivion for 5 hours (with all multithreading options on) and never have my chip reach more than 65c when my idle temps sit around 48-55c (depending on the core).

Is stable and happily plays games (but bsod's when you skip a chapter in a dvd - I blame winmedia9 and bill but haven't updated all the drivers since installing the cdrom with the mobo!).

bios readouts differ quite a bit from settings above:

vcore 1.31V
memory 2.25V
1.2VHT 1.39V
NBcore 1.39V

bios idle cpu temp reads 36degC
pcprobeII cpu temp reads 28degC
coretemp idle reads 54, 46, 50, 49 degC across all 4 cores - monster difference huh

I did try at 1.31875V Vcore, but couldn't even get it to boot...sometime will try lowering vcore again to see if I can't reduce idle temps, but not too bothered after your comments above. I was just thinking out loud re heat stress on the chips - if you've read they're rated to 115/125degC then I'm sure that's more accurate than my random musings.

PS how do I write a signature file?

Man, all you guys that posted your settings are not even using what the Striker was built for..... Whats the point of getting this board then run 1.4v vcore 2.25v vdimm and a bunch at auto?

PS how do I write a signature file?
Look at the top menu::
Quick Links > Edit Signature.

Your temps seem lower than mine and you have your multiplier up to 12x instead of 11x that I have. I am really disappointed with the temps in my case. If I take the side of, its fine; but if I leave it on when I play oblivion, the whole thing turns to s**t. My 8800GTXs just heat up my case to a point where my CPU decides to pack it in. I'm really not happy!!!

Believe it or not, I've tried setting the other values at something other than AUTO but the board just seemed to run better for me with the settings on AUTO.

As for the Vcore and Vdimm; I'm sure most of us are just happy to get the board stable with the components we are using before pushing the board. I for one spent a fair amount of time just getting the system to work properly and haven't had the time to start overclocking it. When it comes down to it though, the Strikers belong to whoever paid for them and they can use them in any way they see fit. Just because you would push a piece of hardware, doesn't mean someone else would.

Re temps - Is it the size of case? (I admit - newbie error - Kandalf case was about 50% bigger than I expected). I haven't run it for hours and hours at a time e.g. on an sli-intensive game, so maybe I haven't seen the worst yet.

BTW, is anyone else irritated by the fact that with striker extreme and 2 8800GTX cards, the card in the lower 16x pci-e slot completely prevents you from accessing the on-board pwr, reset, and bios-clr switches? Or have you all turned your case on it's front and sawed the bottom off it (only half joking...).
