Striker and 45nm Processors

hi, I have recently acquired a striker extreme motherboard, and after reading about the new 45nm processors was wondering if the striker would be able to work with the new upcoming processors? I ask this because I won't be upgrading my Striker for a very long time as I think the board is fantastic...

no it probably won't support it. Thats like having hopes your Socket 478 would run a conroe.

Not really. When the Core 2 Duo was announced as LGA-775, everyone knew from the get go that 478 moBos would be incompatible -- a Core 2 Duo simply does not fit in a 478 socket.

Peryn processors use the same LGA-775 socket as current Conroe chips, so physically they will fit without issue into a Striker and other 680i boards. Furthermore, 680i boards officially support a 1333Mhz bus, which is a big deal and a plus for compatibility.

However, Intel has stated that Peryn's voltage architecture is different from Conroe's. What is not yet know is whether supporting this change will require new hardware not available on 680i boards, or whether it can be supported via a BIOS update. If a BIOS update does the trick, then your 680i board should happily except a Peryn CPU. This is the big question, and probably won't be answered until Peryn is close to release.
