Ok so basically one day I woke up and tried browsing the internet on my laptop and it wasn't working. I looked at my wireless switch on the side of my laptop and the switch was on, but the wireless light was amber - which is the color it turns if my wireless isn't working. So I close my laptop and figure ill worry about it another day. I wake up the next day, and before I open my laptop, I notice the wireless light is blue - which is the color it turns if wireless is working. So I figure it must be a glitch and after I'm done I close the laptop again. The next day I wake up and again, no wireless. I figure maybe it's my connection, but at my brothers house it still wouldn't connect. The next day STILL at my brother's house it randomly connected.

So I get back home and go through a few days of no wireless (amber light), until one day I open the laptop and its working again (blue light). So I figure maybe it has to do with me closing the lid. So for the next 3-5 days I don't close the lid and I have a blue light and a perfect connection. That was until a friend was using it and closed the lid. From then on I could never get another connection. So it's been about a month without being able to use the internet, and have no idea what's wrong.

Not only does my connection disappear, all traces of any sort of wireless anything on my computer disappears along with it.

I leave for college in a few weeks and this will be my only computer/source of internet while im there. So if I cant get a solution im screwed.

Im thinking it may be a driver issue, but I dont know where to look for an updated one, as soon as I got the thing, I formatted and installed XP and specific drivers I found while googling for someone who did the same thing with this Laptop. Also I dont understand why it would just randomly go out and back again.

Thanks in advance if you read this far, this is very frustrating.

Sounds like a battery issue TBH. As far as laptops go...when they're in sleep mode or have a low battery, windows will begin to shut down "unneeded" services, like your DHCP client etc...I'd assume that's what is going on if it stays fine when the lid is up. Check your power settings in your OS and maybe try a different battery.

Thanks for the response!

The wireless dosnt work even if the lid is up. I dont think it would be a battery issue because even when the laptop is fully charged and plugged in it still wont work...

I have had some USB wireless cards that will only work for awhile when they have power to them. This means that even if the PC is off the USB wireless still has power. I have to physically unplug the device and wait for it to cool down. That's right, the wireless devices overheat and get progressively worse over time. Chips suffer from a problem called electron tunneling and this gets worse with heat and time. So I would say you have a bad wireless card. You may still be under warranty.

You need to check your power saving options both in Windows and in the BIOS to make sure the wireless card is not being turned off when not in use which might be your problem. As gigaxtreme1 stated it could be that your wireless card is dieing or dead and needs to be replaced.
